It’s Tumblr Tuesday!

This ever happen to you? I dreamt in Tumblr last night.

I walked around the city, covered in little hearts and reblog buttons. I showed my appreciation for a beautiful sunset by reaching out and poking its like button. I saw some delicious tacos, hit reblog, and had some of my very own. This was a world I could live in.

Fast-forward to this morning: I was tired, disheveled, and there was a really pretty girl on the subway. To show my appreciation, I went to push her like button. Didn’t work. Hit it again. Nothing. I tried and tried, but nothing was working right.

Long story short, now I’m in jail. I used my phone call to select today’s five picks:

Gödel, Escher, Bach, Tumblr
GEBT is a book group dedicated to reading one chapter a week of Douglas Hofstadter’s 1979 masterpiece book about artificial intelligence, mathematics, consciousness, puzzles, music, and language. I know what three of those are!

Growing up Heroes
I thought this was going to be something like a teenage Clark Kent blogging about how horrible puberty is, but Growing up Heroes is in fact much cuter and much less annoying than that.

The Butter Room
The Butter Room is built to spread a passion for live music. This ten-person group posts a ton of great content, including reviews, daily features, interviews with musicians, photos from the road, and of course, some music.

The Tickr
The Tickr covers the culture of professional sports fandom. Less about the scores than the athletes themselves, this Tumblr blog focuses on the sights and sounds that make it fun to be a sports fan. Don’t miss their guide to throwing a Super Bowl party.

Fuck Yeah Dioramas!
While it’s true that the whole “Fuck Yeah” thing might be getting old, I can’t just sit by and let something as awesome as a bunch of dioramas all gathered together go unnoticed. It’s time to take a stand! Say it with me: Fuck Yeah Dioramas!

On this final Tuesday of the decade, it might be a good time to take a somber look at where we’ve been, where we’re going, and where we are now. However, since this is Tumblr Tuesday and I’m me, I’m going to give you some whimsical predictions for 2010 instead.

In the coming months, I predict that Tumblr will release a feature to post Haikus in addition to chats and quotes. Tumblarity will be worth more than the dollar, and GPOYW will become a national holiday. Tumblr’s iPhone App will start posting automatically.

Also, somebody is going to start putting Lolcats-style text on something else and it’s going to be humongous. Here and now, the Tumblrs:

My Social Impact
Social media can make a social impact, and this Tumblr blog tracks the progress made.

Animals Dressed as Humans
I thought everyone already knew about this site, but I wound up at a convention last night with a bunch of people who dressed up as animals and they wouldn’t listen to me when I told them they had it backwards.

Fuck yeah, Advertising!
People love clever advertisements these days, which is for the best since they’re infiltrating more and more aspects of our lives. [THIS SPACE FOR RENT]

GIFCAT
This is either the best website ever created or it’s not.

American Apologies
This Tumblr blog is dedicated to apologizing for all of the embarrassments, failures, and injustices done by the United States. So far it includes hippies and Dan Quayle, so there’s really no chance this will offend anyone.

It’s Tumblr Tuesday!

You’re all probably sick of hearing about the small amount of snow New York City received over the weekend. That’s a real shame, because I’m going to talk about it some more. Look, I’ve never seen snow before, so this is a big deal. Plus, all those years in sunny Florida left me with some real misconceptions about how snow works.

First, snow doesn’t just go away. It piles up and waits for someone to come cart it off to the snow globe factory or something. Second, snow gets dirty. It may be beautiful on Day One, but immediately after that it turns into a giant nasty sponge which grabs hold of trash and sometimes even people. And finally, despite the mess, it’s incredibly tempting to jump into a huge pile of snow whilst yelling “Cowabunga, dudes!” Seriously, I can’t make it out of my front door without nearly doing a cannonball in it. The only thing stopping me is the sharks.

The more you know! And now, the Tumblrs you’ve been waiting for:

Fresh Photons
Interested in science but not excited about all the work involved? Fresh Photons is just the thing for you. You’ll find an infinitely expanding collection of science imagery here. Science is hard! Let’s enjoy pictures!

Succeed Blog
Succeeds are the opposite of Fails, so they’re kind of like Wins, but they’re much better than Wins because they’re Succeeds.

workspaces
This Tumblr blog features photographs of where we spend most of our days: work. Spanning several decades and several career disciplines, perhaps there’s even something here to inspire you to do something with your crappy office.

La Cuisine D’Art
A treasure chest filled with beautiful treats of the edible, drinkable, and audible varieties.

Psychobabble
Psychology news from a psychotherapist. My favorites are the results of experiments and studies: Doodling helps memory and concentration, the primal connection between smell and episodic memory is mediated by the hippocampus, and reading Tumblr Tuesday makes you more sexually appealing.

I might have missed your favorites, so who do you nominate for the next episode of Tumblr Tuesday?

I created this account to coincide with my collector’s identity and also, my blog. With my personal Flickr account being upgraded to Pro, I decided I will upload all my toy and figure photos there, utilising the sets and collections feature. It will also ease me the worry of having so much limited space in uploading all my toy photos. I will still keep most of the pictures here though, especially the ones that already have comments. This will be a note however, that there might be duplicates here and there, so everyone will be reminded that the owners are one and the same: me, Kyameel. If you would still want to follow all my toy and figure photos, you can still follow me on my now official acount. This is not a good bye, but a see you later. So thank you very much. Tumblr just broke into the Top 100!
Please welcome our new Director of Scaling and Sysops.
Watching the community grow so quickly over the past few months has been humbling and inspiring.  It’s also presented huge new scaling challenges that have quickly become a full-time job.
So we’re psyched to be welcoming Andrew Terng to the team to make sure Tumblr is fast and stable while we get everyone in the world blogging.  Andrew just moved back to NYC from California where he had been scaling Delicious at Yahoo for the past two years.  Welcome, Andrew!
This is an amazing opportunity you guys have given us and we’re working hard to make sure your experience here only gets better.  :)
